Our client is a global service provider dealing with some of the World’s most successful companies. They are currently recruiting for a qualified accountant to join the cost management team in Aberdeen.
Purpose of Job
The Cost Management Team is responsible for providing a proactive and high level support to the Budget Responsibility Officers (BROs). Effective Cost Management in the client's North Sea operations has become increasingly important as profit margins are threatened by reduced production and increased cost trends across the North Sea business. This role recognises the need for the budget holders to get a high degree of support, including regular meetings, analysis of cost trends and commitments against budgets and activity levels, and an increased understanding of what lies behind the numbers to facilitate a meaningful level of discussion with the budget holders and appropriate challenge on the forecasts. The incumbent will take specific responsibility for supporting certain budget holders as well as working within a team
Main Accountabilities
- Work with Team Lead Operations to assist in Risk analysis of budgets to ensure a targeted and appropriate level of support is given to all areas and particularly higher risk areas
- Be part of a team of 6.
- Work with back office team to ensure costs are accurately recorded and analysed and commitment information is available. Work with back office team to ensure all actions are completed following BRO meetings.
- Meet BROs on a regular appropriate basis routinely, and an ad hoc basis as required in order to proactively support them in cost management.
- Lead the BRO meetings - ensure that all objectives of the meetings are met and document results and actions of all meetings.
- Ensure that all variances from previous forecast and budget are documented for Management informationI purposes.
- Attend cost review meetings with the Team Lead Operations as appropriate for own areas.
- Training and coaching BROs
- Assist in annual budget process.
- Support the Controllers and Financial analysts
- Other activities including reviewing accrual levels, Tax support, ad hoc queries, CI and Process Improvement, retention of asset/business knowledge etc.
- Preparation and support of M&O forecasts. Review of SAP payroll, Timewriting etc with Senior BRO's.
- MI assurance of areas within responsibility in line with the client's expectations

- Work with the wider teams (onshore & offshore), encouraging knowledge sharing and promoting best practice.
- Assist in application of standardisation and continuous improvement.
- Meet or exceed target service deliverables within the commercial agreement.

- Qualified accountant (preferred) with industry experience, or alternatively may have significant depth of experience in the oil industry and/or cost management.
- Good team player
- Good organisational skills
- Sound commercial awareness.

- Good analytical approach, problem solver and determined.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills together with strong interpersonal skills with ability to articulate complex business outcomes and drivers
- Knowledge of SAP and other accounting systems,
- Strong skills in software packages (Word Powerpoint, Excel)
- Support process efficiency initiatives.
- Proactive approach to issue ownership and resolution, and ability to recognise when issues should be escalated
- Ability to build and develop excellent client and client and offshore working relationships
